2019 Battlefield Memorial March, October 9

Date: October 09, 2019

Time: 7:00 am

On Wednesday, October 9th, Coastal Heritage Society will honor those who fought during the 1779 Battle of Savannah, one of the most significant conflicts during Savannah’s Revolutionary War history and one of the war’s most pivotal battles.

Coastal Heritage Society’s Battlefield Memorial March event will lead guests through the footsteps of soldiers on that historic day in 1779, in celebration of the 240th anniversary. The march begins promptly at 7 am. All march participants will meet in the Savannah History Museum parking lot at 6:45 am. After the march a wreath laying and remembrance ceremony will be held on Battlefield Park.

This year, two stones have been commissioned by the Savannah chapter of the General K. Pulaski Committee, honoring Captain Frederick Paschke and Polish-Lithuanian nobleman Feliks Miklaszewicz. Additional stones will also be dedicated to John McCutchen and Thomas Snelson, two participants in the Siege of Savannah. These honorary markers will be placed by their descendants and unveiled the day of the event.

Battlefield Memorial March is free and open to the public. Light breakfast refreshments and coffee will be served for all attendees following the ceremony. This project is supported by Georgia Humanities, in partnership with the Georgia Department of Economic Development, through funding from the Georgia General Assembly.
